Billing & Minimum Units
As a courtesy, summer sewer rates for residential customers are based on winter consumption. However, there is a minimum quarterly sewer charge of 12 units. For sewer only customers, the minimum sewer charge is 20 units.

Backwater Valve
A backwater valve will help prevent raw sewage from backing up into your basement by allowing sewage to only flow 1 way (out of your home).

All new residential construction within Georgetown Township requires the installation of a backwater valve, however, many older homes do not have one. Georgetown Township does not require the installation of a backwater valve in your home (if one is not already present); this information is available to you so you can be made aware of your options.

A backwater valve can be installed in the basement at the exit point from the home or building, or in the sewer lateral outside of the building. A home may be susceptible if the lowest drain is less than 24 inches above the nearest upstream manhole.

If you already have a backwater valve or are planning to install one, regular maintenance will be necessary to make sure that it is operating properly at all times.

During a backflow/backup event, the main line valve would completely close to prevent sewage from entering the building. The valve automatically reopens when the condition subsides.
