Cross Pollination 101

Monday, July 16, 2018

Have you ever wondered where new types of plants come from? Well, they come from ordinary people who have two plants they cross to make something completely new. In this class, taught by advanced master gardener Carol DeVries, you will learn everything you need to know about how to achieve great results making your own crosses. Using the Daylily as a model, you will learn to identify which are the best plants, ways to propagate, and practical steps to cross. Daylilies will be at peak bloom during this class so participants will be able to apply the information learned immediately. Carol, past President of the Grand Valley Daylily Society, has had two of her cultivars accepted by the American Hemerocallis Society. Carol will bring seedlings for each participant to take home. The seedlings will bloom in the next year and if you like, Carol will assist you in getting the Daylily named.
