Tax Changes

The Assessor establishes the Assessed Value for all property each year.  A notice is mailed to all property owners in February, notifying the owner of any change in their assessed value.  The Township Board of Review meets each March to hear any appeals of the assessments.  You can compare assessments or obtain detail information for any parcel on our Property Information System

Township Treasurer Daniel Carlton 

The Treasurer is responsible for the billing and collection of the property tax.  The Treasurer takes the taxable value established by the assessor and applies the millage rates determined by each government entity involved.  Summer and Winter taxes are billed July 1 and Dec. 1 and are payable without penalty Sept. 14 and Feb. 14.  Property information including Assessing, Taxes and Special Assessments is available on line.  Click below to try out our property information system.  Property Information System

Tax Changes for 2009

Ottawa County Board of Commissioners Voters approved on August 5, 2008 .5000 mills for Emergency 911 service.  The tax amount for an average property with a taxable value of 85,000 will be $42.50 per year.

Tax Change for 2008

Winter Tax Change for All Parcels.  On September 8, 2008 the Georgetown Township Board authorized a 11% tax cut in the Township Millage Rate.  The approved rate is 2.00 mills down from 2.25 mills.

Hudsonville Public Schools Voters approved on May 6, 2008 1.000 mill for Building and Site Sinking Fund.  This millage replaces the expiring millage from 2007 in the amount of 0.9793.  The tax amount for an average property with a taxable value of 85,000 is $85.00 per year. 

Tax Changes for 2007

Due to a change in state law (Public Acts 356 and 357 of 2004), 100% of the county allocated operating millage will be shifted to the July 2007 property tax bill from the December 2007 property tax bill.  The average property with a taxable value of 85,000 will increase by $100.00.  The winter bill will decrease by a similar amount.

Ottawa Area Intermediate School District Voters on May 8, 2007 approved  a 1.3152 mill increase over the current levy of 4.2093 this represents a 31% increase over the current intermediate school district levy.    The average property with a taxable value of 85,000 will increase by $112.00 per year.   This will cover all properties in the Jenison and Hudsonville School District.

Ottawa County Board of Commissioners approved a 3% increase in the Ottawa County Millage Rate.  The approved rate is 3.6 mills up from 3.5 mills.  The average property with a taxable value of 85,000 will increase by $8.50 per year.

Tax Change for 2006

Due to a change in state law (Public Acts 356 and 357 of 2004), two-thirds of the county allocated operating millage will be shifted to the July 2006 property tax bill from the December 2006 property tax bill.  The average property with a taxable value of 85,000 will increase by $100.00.  The winter bill will decrease by a similar amount.

Tax Change for 2005

Due to a change in state law (Public Acts 356 and 357 of 2004), one-third of the county allocated operating millage will be shifted to the July 2005 property tax bill from the December 2005 property tax bill.  The average property with a taxable value of 75,000 will increase by $88.00.  The winter bill will decrease by a similar amount.   

Tax Changes for 2004 

Summer Tax Change for all parcels.  The State of Michigan raised the state education tax from 5 mills last year to 6 mills this year.  This change will increase the average bill with a taxable value of 75,000 by $75.00. 

Changes for Jenison School District Only.   Jenison Schools decided to collect 100% of their tax levy on the summer tax bill.  In the past the school taxes were collected 50% in the summer and 50% in the winter.   By collecting the taxes sooner the school will reduce their need for borrowing for operating purposes.  The average homestead property with a taxable value of 75,000 will increase by $270.00.  The winter bill will decrease by a similar amount.   

Winter Tax Change for All Parcels.  On September 13, 2004 the Georgetown Township Board authorized a 10% tax cut in the Township Millage Rate.  The approved rate is 2.25 mills down from 2.50 mills.

Winter Tax Change for All Parcels.  On September 28, 2004 the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners approved a 3% increase in the Ottawa County Millage Rate.  The approved rate is 3.5 mills up from 3.4 mills.
