Staffing

·         No changes in staffing for the month of March.

·         Between scheduled vacations and absences due to illnesses associated with a lingering cold and flu season, staffing public service desks and keeping pace with returned materials proved challenging throughout the month.

 

 

Facility

·         We continue to await resolution to the copy machine coin-op problem.

 

 

 Professional Development & Meetings

·         Meetings and workshops attended by professional staff included:

o        Monthly Staff Meeting for Librarians, Circulation Coordinators & Library Assistants

o        Monthly Staff Meeting for Pages – Mary Reed & Pamela Myers

o        Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting – Pamela Myers

o        Lakeland Library Cooperative’s Planning, Policy & Services Committee – Pamela Myers

o        Lakeland Library Cooperative Circulation Forum – Pamela Myers

·         March 09:  Book Discussion Group For Adults

o        Book:  One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus

o        Book Discussion Leader:  Mary Reed, assisted by Candace Hulst

o        Attendance:  12

 

·         Toddler (“Wee Ones”) and Preschool Story Times

o        Story Times developed and presented/performed by Jill Reyers with assistance from Sue Kirvan (crafts, set-up, and patron relations). (Story time sessions for March 15 and March 16 performed by Sue Kirvan.)

·         March 10:  Book Discussion Group for Teens

o        Book:  I Am David by Anne Holm

o        Book Discussion Leader:  Jill Reyers

o        Attendance: 2 young adults

·         March 22:  Nancy Drew Mystery Night (In Celebration of Nancy Drew’s 75th Anniversary)

o        Attendance: 21 children and 3 adults

o        Due to a need to limit registration, we were unable to accommodate all patrons wishing to attend this program.


 

·         March 29:  School visit to Sandy Hill Elementary School – Jill Reyers

o        Read stories to two second grade classes as part of “March Is Reading Month” programming

o        Attendance:  52 children and 2 adults

 

·         March 31:  Library tour and story presentation to a group of Cub Scouts and parents – Jill Reyers

o        Attendance:  8 children (second graders) and 4 adults

·         Bibliography of Caldecott and Newbery Award Winners updated – Sue Kirvan

·         Began the shifting and relocation of various collections in the Youth Services area to accommodate the growing Series collection and place it in a more prominent and accessible site for patrons – Jill Reyers & Sue Kirvan

·         Promotional materials designed and created for upcoming Family Reading Program special event – Mary Reed

·         Tabletop lobby display for National Parenting Month created and stocked – Mary Reed & Becky Ilkanic

·         “It’s Time to Read” Family Reading Program ongoing Youth Services display – Pamela Myers & Becky Ilkanic

·         Career Resources bibliography completed – Susan Carlson

·         Ongoing weeding of adult nonfiction 355 area – Susan Carlson

·         Weeding of adult fiction “S - V” authors – Mary Reed

·         Weeding of adult nonfiction 796 and 500 areas – Pamela Myers

 

 

 

Friends of the Library

·         The Friends’ President cancelled the group’s monthly meeting for March.
