1. Special Use Permits
a. (SUP0501) Georgetown United Methodist Church (Dan Vos Construction), 2766 Baldwin, is requesting to have a church (addition to existing church), under Sec. 8.3(A), on a parcel of land described as P.P.# 70-14-16-400-001, located at 2766 Baldwin St., in a (LDR) Low Density Residential district, Georgetown Township, Ottawa County, Michigan.
Arne Larson,
Driesenga and Associates Inc., represented the applicant and presented the
request. Denise Hopkins, Dan Vos
Construction, was also present representing the applicant. This is an existing church that was
constructed prior to the adoption of the ordinance requiring a special use
permit for a church. Consequently, there
is no special use permit and one is required now that an addition is proposed. There will be interior adjustments to the
road. Retention would be added due to
the increased area for parking surfaces.
The applicant has talked to the Drain Commissioner’s office regarding
the retention and swale areas. At this
point there is a 43 foot road right-of-way and sidewalks would be added inside
the right-of-way. The exterior of the
addition will be brick to match the existing building.
The planner
presented a review and said that screening is needed on the roof to shield the
mechanical equipment.
There was discussion
regarding the dimensions of the parking spaces that do not meet the
ordinance. The applicant indicated that
the space was available to meet the ordinance but the striping showed a smaller
dimension. It was noted that what was
shown on the site plan was different that what had been approved last spring
for a parking addition. The applicant
asked if they could wait to re-stripe the parking lot until a time when they
sealed the blacktop in the future. The
applicant was directed to show the location of all handicapped parking spaces.
Revisions are
needed. Direction was given to publish
the notice for the public hearing to be held at the next Planning Commission
meeting.
